Simple Wimple

Mother and I got back from Iceland about a week and a half ago and my sister has been pestering me about pictures. We had another great trip this year. I was able to have almost a week off before we left and enjoyed a weekend in The Cities with Dave. The trip home was uneventful but I had to report to back to work less than 24 hours after getting home so that was no fun. It seems like I've done nothing but sleep and work since returning home. I only just got my suitcase out of the living room this morning so it will be a little while before I can post my yarn report! This was the first year we actually worried about cold weather since we would be just outside the arctic circle. Usually I pack capri pants and sandals but this year I only brought long pants. Usually I wear some sort of a light scarf on our trips even if I'm wearing a short sleeved shirt. I find that if you keep your pulse points warm, the rest of you stays warm too and it's a great light item to pack and carry with you. One of the things we wanted to do this trip was go whale watching so we were a little worried about the wind while out on the boat.
We both knitted ourselves a wimple to wear out on the arctic ocean. It is a simple tube of knitting that can be worn scrunched around the neck or pulled up over the ears and crown of the head. This is some superwash sock yarn I bought a few years ago on our trip to northern England in a little yarn shop in the town of Thirsk, famous for James Herriot. I wore this quite a lot around my neck on the trip and found it much less cumbersome that dragging a scarf around with me.
Here is a picture of me on the lower level of the whale watching boat. We were on our way back to shore and I'd had enough of the cold! This was the last knitting I did before the trip and we were so busy this year that I didn't knit a single stitch! I brought along sock yarn I bought in Amsterdam and needles and never even cast on!
